Women in Engineering (WIE)
IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is one of the largest international professional organizations dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists and inspiring girls around the world to follow their academic interests to a career in engineering.
Work
I joined WIE in 2019.
During that year, we organized the "Women in Science and Engineering Camp (2019)" in which students participated in workshops with employees from P&G, Intel, and Hewlett-Packard. This was the first edition of the camp.
The camp was organized by eight members (including me) and was attended by more than 40 STEAM female students from different universities.
We organized workshops related to technical skills given by our sponsors; topics included programming and project management. In addition, some companies also brought talks on relevant topics such as gender, empowerment, and sexism.
In 2020, I was appointed as the branch chair.
As a result of the pandemic, it was difficult to keep the group alive, but we worked together to organize virtual talks with alumni from our university to motivate students during the pandemic, among others.
In 2021, I have had the pleasure to collaborate as vice-chair.
We organized workshops with professionals. One of the biggest events was the workshops on sustainable energy where we had four talks with women who worked in this area, giving us their perspective, and showing the work they have done.
